To provide a natural touch and feel to your prosthesis, some kind of foam covering is used. Some foams are very soft, others firm. All these foams have a very limited life expectancy due to the usual environmental hazards including air humidity, dust, acid rain not to mention tears occurring when bumping into an obstacle.

Stockings do very little for protection, other painted materials do not hold up and do not allow for prosthetic adjustments and/or repairs.
